The information in this section is based on our experiences with patients who have come to us with various symptoms. It details the allergens that we have found to be most influential in causing a range of different conditions, they may or may not be relevant to your allergic symptoms. By avoiding some of the most common causes of your allergic symptoms you can often gain a significant improvement in your condition.

Please see the page avoidance of allergens which provides information on where you would find the allergens mentioned below and how to avoid contacting them.

Remember that most allergic symptoms have a number of triggering allergens and unless you can avoid the majority of these then you may not obtain a noticeable improvement.

To find out which allergens specifically relate to your allergic symptoms come for an allergy test with one of our practitioners.

Important - This guide does not rule out underlying medical conditions and you should always seek advice from your medical practitioner if you are concerned about your health.

Do not stop any prescribed medication without first consulting the person who prescribed it for you.

Anxiety, Depression, Irritability
We have found there to be a definite link between the Night Shade vegetables, particularly tomatoes and peppers and Anxiety, Depression and Irritability. In our experience these are the number one allergens for these conditions. Most of us eat a large amount of tomato in our diets. Another problem can be fluoride, so drinking bottled water and using fluoride free toothpaste can help.

Asthma
This is usually quite complex with a range of different triggers. We have found the most common food trigger to be milk products, more often milk sugar, lactose, than milk proteins. Common environmental triggers can include feathers, household chemicals and cleaning products, perfumes in body products and household products, dust / dust mites, pets, pollens, moulds, paints and inks. It may also be aggravated by cold air and exercise.
There can quite often be an emotional link. The lung meridian is linked to emotions such as loss and grief.

Childhood Behavioural Problems
These include Hyperactivity, lack of concentration, ADD, ADHD, Autism and Turettes. We see a lot of children with these problems and have seen major improvement in many of them following treatment.
ADD, ADHD, Hyperactivity and other Childhood Behavioural Problems are usually very complex issues with many factors involved. If you remove dietary issues such as artificial sweeteners and high sugar diets we have found that allergic reactions, nutritional deficiencies and emotional issues are usually all partly responsible.
With babies and toddlers who do not sleep well we frequently find potato and sometimes milk to be an issue – what do most parents give babies when they first start weaning? – mashed potato... By simply removing the potato the child will often resume a more normal sleep pattern.
The majority of children who suffer from ADD, ADHD, Hyperactivity and other Childhood Behavioural Problems are deficient in Omega Oils. They are usually intolerant or allergic to the oils and therefore are not processing and / or absorbing them. By first treating and then supplementing with the necessary Omega Oils we can repair the deficiency.
For children who struggle with concentration and attention at school we often test them using images of letters, numbers, vertical or horizontal lines, and different shapes. When these images are causing a problem the child often shows extreme reluctantance to even glance at them, so no wonder they do not want to look at books etc at school! Following treatment their concentration and attention usually improves.
We find that these children usually require many treatments to achieve the best results.

Diarrhoea, Constipation, Bloating, Flatulence, Stomach Cramps
These symptoms combined are often labelled Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This means that there may be a number of causes, not all of which are known. Your medical practitioner will usually give you pills to settle your stomach.
Generally we find that Diarrhoea, Constipation, Bloating, Flatulence or Irritable Bowel Syndrome have a link with allergic reactions to foods. Commonly these would be milk products, yeast, gluten, soya (this is in a lot of commercially prepared food, e.g. breads, so you are almost certainly eating a moderate quantity in your diet), and pesticides in foods.

Eczema
Rashes and eczema can be caused by ingesting and contacting allergens. The most common food we have found to be involved is milk products. A surprising number of babies have skin problems, and this can often be improved by giving them lactose free milk formula.
Other factors may include feathers, household chemicals and cleaning products, perfumes in body products and household products, dust / dust mites, pets, pollens, moulds, paints and inks. Tap water is also a frequent trigger, especially in areas where the water contains fluoride.

Fatigue
Commonly when we have patients who present with general fatigue, sleeping well but not feeling rested, feeling like they are ‘wading through treacle’, feeling heavy and ‘unable to get going’ the answer is simply to remove wheat and / or gluten from the diet. Gluten is the protein found in Oats, Wheat, Rye and Barley. Wheat gluten is the form that most often causes allergic symptoms, but any of these grains can be a problem. Gluten and wheat are used in a lot of commercially produced foods, sometimes when you would least expect it, so it is necessary to check packaging to determine which foods contain it.

General Aches and Pains
A lot of people have general achiness and stiff and sore joints, especially in the mornings. They usually put it down to “just getting older”. We have found that yeast and gluten are often mostly to blame, with another common problem being fluoride. Drinking bottled water and using fluoride free toothpaste can often alleviate symptoms.

Indigestion / Heartburn
Milk has long been considered a remedy for indigestion and heartburn as drinking it can give immediate relief. However, we have often found milk products to actually be a big factor in causing these symptoms.
Foods such as yeast, tomato, peppers, alcohol, tea and spices also often play a part in indigestion and heartburn.
One environmental factor that comes up surprisingly often is pollens. Patients may not present with classic ‘hayfever’ or ‘seasonal allergies’ but the pollen affects their stomach.

Sinusitis
Blocked sinuses are a common condition in our patients. Once blocked you may get a secondary bacterial infection which requires antibiotics, but if you can prevent the build up of mucous in the first place you are unlikely to suffer the infection.
Foods such as milk products and yeast are often linked to blocked sinuses. Chinese medicine considers these to be ‘damp forming’ foods.
Environmental factors such as dust / dust mites, pets, pollens, moulds and atmospheric conditions, especially cold and damp weather, can also be involved.

Sore Throats
When this occurs without a viral or bacterial infection being present it usually turns out to be a deficiency, often in Omega 9 (Olive Oil). Simply taking a dessertspoon (10ml) of Olive oil a day can be all that is needed to prevent the sore throat.
Allergens such as mould, dust/dust mites and pollens can also be a problem.
